How hot should the calcination kiln be for plant salts?

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendI have found that salts are quickly whitened with temperatures between 800 and 1200 degrees F. Other alchemists recommend lower temperatures for longer duration, in order to avoid vitrification. I have only vitrified (melted) my salts once, and that was because when I thought I turned the kiln off at the end of calcination I actually turned it up to maximum heat. One half hour later... yellow, blue, lumpy salts.
